Immigration has dramatically changed Indianapolis over the past 15 years. The change has been subtle enough to where it’s gone practically unnoticed by some, but schools have had to adjust rapidly as they have faced major changes in the populations they serve.
A panel of educators and students, moderated by Chalkbeat Indiana reporter Hayleigh Colombo, will focus on the issues, challenges and successes ELL students face in our schools. It will also seek to explore how our schools can better serve students learning English as a new language and what’s different about schools that have adapted well to the changes. This program is cosponsored by WFYI, the Indianapolis Public Library and the American Graduate Project.
